almost paradise

Hey, thanks, you guys! I've just been told that I won two Diarist Awards, for Best Journal and Best Design. How exciting. It's a real honor just to be in company with my fellow nominees, never mind winning two awards.

I'm waiting to find out who else won. Hopefully I'll be able to offer congratulations to my friends and the other people I voted for.

Thanks so much. Really.

I am watching Little Women right now; the Winona Ryder version that I don't especially like. It's better than I remembered, although it doesn't hold a candle to my favorite version, with Janet Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor. At least that version is faithful to the book.

The reason I mention it is that Laurie is played by Christian Bale. Now that I've seen American Psycho, I keep expecting Laurie to pull out a chainsaw and start chasing the March girls around the streets of nineteenth century New England. Maybe Beth will die this time because Laurie disembowels her with a coat hanger.

(Yep. There I go. Straight to hell. Anyone want a postcard?)

Mail has been pouring in (Hey, if four can be a plethora, four can be a downpour. Don't quibble.) regarding my engagement. Since you people crack me up, I figured I'd reprint the mail so you could crack everyone else up, too.

Wal-Mart is the perfect place -- I went there on my wedding day!

Congratulations on your engagement. I recommend registering at Dollar Plus. That's what we did. We ended up getting fourteen Deluxe Plastic Designer Valet trays anyway, though. However, if you don't, I'll send you my standard present, which is a white Rubbermaid laundry basket and a ceramic unicorn.

I don't think white trash have much use for 89 Civics. Something like a 74 Impala on cinder blocks would be more in keeping with the spirit. Especially if it's buried in kudzu in Alabama.

So, I know you have your heart set on plug-in deodorizers, but EVERY swanky trailer MUST have the requisite at-lady-in-polka-dots-bent-over-where-her-bloomers-showin'-to-high-heaven lawn ornament.

Come to Georgia and get married at a Waffle House. Hash browns, grits, tattooed waitresses with missing teeth - what more could you possibly need? And if you wanna make it a shotgun wedding, I have plenty of friends here who can provide the shotguns! And there are plenty of Wal-Marts where people can buy your presents. Maybe you could honeymoon in the parking lot of Crazy Pete's Fireworks on Highway 28 in South Carolina.

In other wedding news, Ethan (who says he is not Ethan Hawke, but doesn't say anything one way or the other about being in prison) has found us a place to live. Here's a picture.

A trailer that looks like a cow! That is the very definition of paradise on earth, in my book.

And like the good little housewife I intend to be, I've been planning it all out in my mind. I already know exactly where I'm going to set up the crystal meth lab.

Sigh. I am one starry eyed girl.

Hee. It's my magnum opus: bunnyguts.

what i'm reading:
I am about to start The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. I know nothing about it, except that it's on my list.

what i'm writing:
Nothing so far today. I took a long nap this afternoon.

anything:
I'll do anything / for you, dear / anything / yes I'd do anything / anything / for you.

journal quote of the day:
"I'm like a new parent. I go over there and look at the new little shoot all day. It's like I've been given a second chance to keep a little bit of Nan alive."

Shelley in shelleyness.

mood ring:
white. as in trash.

you learn something new...
I learned that "draught" is the old fashioned spelling of "draft." As a reader of many a Jane Austen novel, that's good to know.
