the mothership

I have a giant zit on my forehead.

No, I mean giant. It appeared out of nowhere, landing like the mothership, causing me great pain. I actually just took an Advil, because it hurts, man, and the more it hurts, the more I want to fuck with it. I don't care so much about the giant red lump on my head (attractive though it may be) I just want it not to hurt.

Aargh!

It's probably punishment for being such a bitch lately. No, really, I'm a bitch. Not in that "proud to be a bitch" sort of way, more in that, "I always thought I was a nice person, but in actual fact, I sure can be a mega mega beyotch" way.

And so the gods have punished me with this giant painful mothership on my head. Pity me.

I actually had no intention of talking about the mothership at all. But since we're on the subject of ships, can I just tell you that I'm ridiculously excited about Enterprise?

Here are my Star Trek nerd credentials: I was a huge fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation, (saw all the episodes and movies, read a bunch of the books) although I have never seen an episode of the original series. I saw some Voyager episodes, and I think maybe one Deep Space 9. I have the two Nitpickers books on TNG and visit the Nitpickers website from time to time.

So I'm what you might call a selective fan. For those of you who are not big giant nerds, Enterprise is the forthcoming series. It's set in the time between First Contact and TOS (the original series) when space exploration is just starting to happen.

When I first heard the concept, I thought it sounded kind of lame. Then I heard Scott Bakula was playing the captain and decided that no matter how lame it was, I would watch it. I've been crazy in love with Scott Bakula for ten years now.

(When I first met my friend Max's little brother, who is now a successful actor, he was about eleven. He had only done a few small roles, but one of them was a part on Quantum Leap. I remember squealing with excitement. "Oh my god! You've met Scott Bakula!" In the years since then, he's met President Clinton, and worked with such people as Brad Pitt, Woody Allen, and Heath Ledger. And yet, as far as I'm concerned, Scott Bakula was the high point.)

What actually got me excited about the series is the most recent TV Guide, which has some interesting stuff in it. It mentions some advantages of the premise. For one thing, the humans in the series are going to be far more flawed than the typical "Roddenberry humans" in the other series. And also, we get to see some of the technology in its infant stages, or the technology won't exist. And most importantly, Scott Bakula gets to have sex in this series. Scott. Bakula. Sex. I'm having palpitations.

I understand that some long time fans are pissed off because the new series is taking liberties with the canon's established timeline, etc. And I'll be interested to uncover the discrepancies along with the rest of the nerds.

But I don't care what anyone says, I don't care. Enterprise is going to rule!

Probst says that if I keep writing entries about my Sims, everyone is going to think I have no life. But then again, I really don't.

I mean, what have I done this week? I cleaned my room, did some yoga, worked a lot, and went to my poetry workshop with Joey. That's it. But I think it's okay, because last weekend I went to L.A., and then this coming weekend I'm going to L.A.. I think seeing Spinal Tap and going to Disneyland qualifies as something a person with a life would do.

So nyah nyah. I do so have a life.

But my Sims will probably be updated soon anyway.

And in closing, man, those are the most boring Emmy nominations ever. John Lithgow and Kelsey Grammar! Ally McBeal and ER! Yeah, that's some groundbreaking shit, right there. At least Wayne Brady and Steve Martin are nominated, but those are straws, and I am grasping at them. How does Road Rules get nominated, and Buffy doesn't? I hate the Emmys.

"Lorca believed that in order for art to be great, it has to convey a constant awareness of death-- the knowledge that every act and every thought is, to some extent, finite. "

Duende. A little melodramatic, but if you don't mind that sort of thing, it's not bad.
