My sister and Ash sent me the coolest thing in the mail. In addition to pictures and candy and a book called "Miss Wise," they sent me something called Poetry Dog Tags. I've never heard of this, but it's like, wearable poetry!
There are all these bitty dog tags with words printed on them, and you're supposed to make poems out of the dog tags and then wear your poems. They give you a chain and 250 words. That's a lot of words! I couldn't even look through more than a quarter of them before my brain went on overload with possibility. I considered "A Massive Luscious Behind" or something in honor of Probst, but for my first poem, I ultimately went with "Any Fool Can Consume Her Delicious Crimson Head." I am sure you can guess just how much fun I am going to have with my new toy. And speaking of... I don't know, things that make me happy, November is shaping up to be quite a month. There's the musical episode of Buffy (the only way I could be more excited about this would be if James Marsters and Anthony Stewart Head were planning to come over to my house personally and sing to me) and the new Sims expansion pack. There's the Harry Potter movie and the new season of Absolutely Fabulous. There's a Thanksgiving potluck with my friends and some days off. So, with all due respect to the fate that I don't want to tempt right now, yay for November! Speaking of Buffy, I got a Buffy jacket. Okay, not a jacket with "Buffy" written on it (because that would be dippy) but a jacket that looks like a jacket Buffy wore in the credits once upon a time. It's a long red-brown leather jacket with a slit up the middle in the back and three big buttons right under the boobs. (That's right. It's a boob accentuating jacket.) It kicks ass. And how did I manage to afford this badass jacket, you ask? Well, it was only $13! I finally went to the Ross by my house, and I scored not only the badass Buffy jacket, but a great blanket. See, winter is coming, and I needed another blanket. So I got this thermal blanket for $10. It's a Ralph Lauren (ooh, fancy) charcoal gray blanket that is just soooo warm and comfy. It is second in my heart only to the blanky that I stole from Bruce 11 years ago. The Bruce-blanky used to smell just like him: Downy fabric softener and Prell. Mmm. I finished my big project for my workshop class: the photography immersion project. Yep, just finished stapling them together. It's six poems, and six poems with accompanying photos. The photocopies didn't come out the best, but they came out okay. Close enough. I'm pretty happy with it. Now I have to get going on another paper for my Moore/Niedecker/Bishop class. Didn't I just finish the Moore paper? Now it's time for the Niedecker paper. And I am determined to get an A. I think I mentioned this in the sidebar, but I got an A- on the Moore paper. Not bad, but I was disappointed because I thought it was an A paper for sure. In fact, I thought it was the best job I could possibly do. Of course, taking a second look at it, I can see where my intro and conclusion could have been better written. (I am out of practice; I haven't had to write a lot of papers so far.) I think the A- was fair. But this means I need to try even harder because I want an A, damnit, an A! But once again, I have no idea what to write about. None. None. Noooone. Damnit. And now for something completely different.
Oh, I forgot something! I did get those two rejections the other day, but I also got one acceptance, from the Journal of Modern Writing, a new publication replacing the South Boston Literary Gazette. Yay, team me! So, if you're keeping score at home, out of 17 submissions, I've gotten three rejections (one of which was "re-submit in six months" and one of which was "we're not reading poetry right now, nothing personal") and one acceptance. A 25% acceptance rate so far; not bad!
365 days ago (give or take): I make my escapades list! And since then, I've done 15 of the 106 things on my list. It's a good time to make an escapades list, if you haven't made one before... hint, hint... |
what i'm writing:
what i'm watching:
anything:
you learn something new...
journal quote of the day: Tamar in visions and revisions. Very interesting point! Although NaNoWriMo is so tempting to a competitive statistics whore like me with an escapade to complete.
