pop quiz, hotshot

We had a mini-Journalcon planning session yesterday. Lucy, Jen Wade, Josh and myself met at this French restaurant near the (very cute) hotel and then we went off to scout local karaoke bars.

And now, a quiz. The funniest thing that happened last night. Was it:

A) The cab driver who thought we must be going to Kentucky Fried Chicken (we looked like Fried Chicken eaters, I guess). When we told him that in fact we had just had an excellent dinner at a nice French restaurant, he snorted derisively and insisted the "French restaurant" was just us standing on a corner in the Tenderloin, pretending to be eating snails.

B) The karaoke video for "Ebony & Ivory" which opened with a black guy walking his white dog. As we laughed, Jen said, "Well, at least it's not a white guy and his black dog." The next scene? A white guy with his black dog. For a while we thought it was going to turn into a gay love story, but alas. After the frolicking of the interracial dogs, their owners decided they were just going to be friends.

C) The karaoke machine changing the words to "Take a Chance On Me," so that when the song went, "If you're all alone when the pretty birds have flown," Jen Wade and I were singing "If you're all alone with a pretty purse, let's go!"

The correct answer seems to be C, since that's the one that's making me laugh at the moment. Especially since the song is sung by either two women (the original ABBA version) or two gay men (the Erasure version) and therefore, the really cute purse in the lyrics would have to belong to a guy.

Today all I did was work. Well, also, I slept. Or tried to sleep. It was weird. Let's have another quiz, shall we?

What was most disruptive to my sleep last night? Was it:

A) The springing ahead of the clocks.

B) The child who threw one temper tantrum after another all morning directly above my head. I kept waking up, vaguely wondering what time it was, and then going back to sleep.

C) The random woman who I heard outside my door, saying, "Is there a bird in there?" Then she opened my door and said equally loudly, "Oh! I didn't know there was somebody asleep in here!" Then I heard The Kid saying, "That's Monique." I vaguely wondered who the woman was, what time it was, and if I had any clothes on. Then I went back to sleep.

Notice that Phoebe isn't even on the list. Usually, Phoebe IS the list.

The correct answer to this is probably all of the above. Yet somehow, I managed to sleep until one in the afternoon anyway. I am that good at sleeping. (Also, I stayed up until five watching An Affair to Remember, but that's not the point.)

Work today was fairly interesting. And because now I'm committed to the quiz format, I'll present one last quiz.

What was the most noteworthy thing that happened at work today? Was it:

A) Finally talking to my manager, who I've been thinking has been pissed off at me, only to find out that she isn't pissed off at me, and was never pissed off at me in the first place. In fact, she thinks I've been doing a great job. Yay!

B) Having the girl from Zachary's Pizza randomly bring us a chicken and mushroom pizza for dinner. She said, "The people at work said I should bring it to Peet's, but I like Starbucks better!" We had made her a white mocha earlier; it must have been good. It was a phenomenal pizza.

C) Having Becky ask a customer, "What can I get you?" and him answering, in all seriousness, "Cocaine." When she said she couldn't help him with that, he said, "But I thought this was a liberal city! A city of freedom!" Okay, yeah, Berkeley is liberal. But it's not quite so liberal that you can get COCAINE at STARBUCKS.

Maybe in L.A., though.

365 days ago (give or take):

"It's nice to know that if I do forget my pants, I will be able to handle it with grace and aplomb. That's quite comforting.

(Mental note: do not, under any circumstances, forget pants.)"

Stuff and Sims and stuff.

what i'm reading:
I swear to god, I am so almost done with that Russian thingie. I just got to the part in Lear where the guy's eyes get plucked out. ("Out, vile jelly!") In the immortal words of Garth Algar, "Eeeew."

what i'm writing:
Nothing. I'm barely writing this.

what i'm watching:
An Affair to Remember although I was so annoyed at what's her name, Terry, that I could hardly stand it. Why was she so stupid?

anything:
Oh my god, I forgot-- this one girl came into work today, and she was so much like Caitlyn that I could barely believe it. Same features, same haircut, same mannerisms, same voice, same tiny little stud in the exact same spot on her nose... at first I was like, "What? The hell?" It was FREAKY.

Also, has anyone noticed there's a new Sims expansion pack? I guess I know what I'm spending my tips on this week.

one bird, two bird, green bird, blue bird:
Phoebe likes to nibble my finger and sit on it with one foot. She's weird.

journal quote of the day:
"Hot water. Lots of hot water. It should be the kind of hot where the mop runs across the floor in an antiseptic swoop, leaving steam trails behind. You can move the bucket as you work your way across the floor, and the circle of warmth left behind can be felt by your feet, even in normal shoes. Use Murphy's Oil Soap."

I heart krystyn.
