There is a tie-in entry in the blog, I feel the need to report. In today's entries I talk about many things, including the anniversary, Michael J. Fox, and my vagina.
Something for everyone!
Yesterday, my mother left me a message in a bizarre accent. "Is Colleen therrre? This is your moth-uuur. Call me. Bye-bye!" Firstly, Colleen is my middle name, and I have no idea why she has decided to call me that. (In college she used to send letters addressed to Baby Girl C3497, because before I was adopted, that was my name. That always cracked me up.) Secondly, my mother pronounces it (even when she's not making with the funny accent) KO-leen. I think my middle name might be KO-leen. At least in the minds of my parents. Thirdly, the accent? No idea. On the whole, it was a very surreal experience. Of course tonight I called them back. DAD: "How's my girl, doing alright?" ME: "Yeah, I'm good! Busy, but good." DAD: "Did you get my email I send you yesterday?" ME: "Yes-- I'm going to write back, don't worry. Oh, I wanted to tell you. Sometimes I write on my website about you, and I tell people some of the things you say." DAD: "Really?" ME: "Yes. One girl wrote to tell me that she is going to start using 'keep in touch with the Dutch' as a saying, even though she's not Dutch." DAD: "Oh, she likes that, huh? Just don't tell her, 'if it ain't Dutch it ain't much'!" ME: "Right, you don't want anyone stealing that one!" DAD: "That's a good one alright, there! Ha ha!" ME: "Oh, and someone else wrote to me and said, 'does your dad know you have a fan club?' So I thought I should tell you that you do!" DAD: "Oh really? Oh... well, here's mom again. Mom wants to talk to you." (He passes the phone to mom.) MOM: "Hello honey! How are--" DAD (in the background): "I have a fan club!"
Want to write a fan letter to my father? Here you go!
365 days ago (give or take): One of my favorite entries! Last year, I avoided having an entry dated September 11. Here is the one from the year before that. |

journal quote of the day: Either way, it'll change, the love will become sad and lost, or deeper and fuller, it won't be this newness which is only possible when everything is in the future. And I want to remember feeling like this." Kymm got up this morning and watched the sun rise over Manhattan. This quote is two days old, so click forward to see her sunrise pictures. They are a beautiful tribute.
