Wait Just A Damn Second

I followed a referral link back to this site and as I was reading the list of news articles, I realized they sounded familar. Let's compare and contrast, shall we?

February 15, PlusStuff:
Too Beautiful To Be Fat
A mentally ill girl who is "too beautiful to be in a psychiatric ward" goes on medication which stops her from hearing voices in her head. But this isn't a good thing, because the medication has MADE HER FAT! Here's a quote from the original article:

My March 1 post is also excerpted on this site; I didn't look into it further. Maybe it's an aggregate news collection of some type, but I think this cut-and-paste technique is irresponsible at best. PlusStuff, thanks for the link, but I would appreciate a credit when you cut and paste my blog posts onto your own site. Thanks.

I didn't look to closely at it, but it might be a "splog." Thats a spam blog or when someone takes contents from lots of different blogs in hopes of getting search engine links. People click on the ads on the site and the owner makes money without having to actually develop their own content.

Pastaqueen might be right, but its still plagurism (can't spell tonight; I've had a rough week) nonetheless. I though you were rather nice about it. I would have had sharper words.

I don't think it is a spam site -- they are usually just completely slapped together with no "about" site or list of contributors or anything. This is set up like a zine.

A similar site once swiped a bunch of my stuff and published it, under their ad banner and with someone else's byline. I think in that case it was one of the contributors doing the swiping, not the zine itself. Mo, I would send them a cease and desist if I were you.

This is awful -- they just want to grab content from wherever, make the site look like it is "authored", and sell from affiliate or referral links. Besides being all the other things that people mentioned, it's rude!

They're still ripping off content from other blogs - check out today's post, which is taken from Chewin The Fat!

Thanks for the heads up, btw, I've asked them to remove the link to my group and given a heads up to ISAA as well.

Cheers

Yeah, all they did was remove the post that I quoted in the entry, but my March 15 post is still being ripped off. Thanks for spotting where this latest one is from!

Oh, but Chewin' the Fat is the PlusStuff staff's blog. So that's not really plagiarism there!

...and now all the content has disappeared! Hurrah!
