BFD Loves: America Ferrera

You've all seen Real Women Have Curves, right? And Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants? And you all love America Ferrera, right? She's got a new show coming out in the fall called Ugly Betty, which I hope lives up to her awesomeness:

"She's outstanding as the title character, a homely young woman working at a high-fashion magazine. Ferrera, of course, is much more attractive than Betty, but she's not as stick-thin as most young actors. Which is, frankly, a mark in her favor.

'I didn't even know I was fat until I started acting,' she said. 'I didn't know how fat and ugly I was until I started going on auditions.' Far from pity, there was empowerment in what she said and how she said it. She was great.

'I don't feel that way inside... To me it seems like the roles that mean something, the roles that really delve in and really make people feel connected to it and make me feel connected to it are roles that are flawed and the roles that nobody else wants to play.'"

I totally agree with the author of this article: if there's any justice in the world, America Ferrera will be a huge star. And are they making a sequel to the Pants movie? Because I effing loved the Pants movie so much.

The article says its a remake of a telenovela also staring America Ferrera. That could very well be its name!

Funny that this should be the topic since I bought Sisterhood DVD this weekend. I know that there is a 2nd and 3d book (in the 3d, it is the last summer before they all leave for college). No idea if they are planning on making them into movies or not. Despite the fact that it was probably marketed as a teen flick, I really enjoyed it. I have been a huge fan of Amber Tamlyn ever since her General Hospital days (loved Joan of Arcadia too and was bummed when it went off the air so quickly). I also enjoyed America Ferrera in the SIsterhood movie as well as Real Women have Curves.

How could ANYONE (even in our crazy fat-fearing society) think she is ugly? She is just lovely. Christina

I just recently saw "Real Women Have Cuves," and I enjoyed it even though I didn't think the title really lived up to what the film was actually about. I wrote about it here.

Sorry for the late comment -- but I'm just now catching up on this blog, and I'm SO excited about this tv show! My Colombian roommate and I used to watch Betty la Fea obsessively about five years back. It was a dumb soap opera, but ridiculously addictive. So addictive, that I'd watch it with the closed-captioning on, because I don't really speak Spanish, but could understand enough by just reading the words. Happy sigh.

America Ferrara rocks my world, too.
