Hi Rebecca!
It's my third week at my new job, and I think we found a place to live, and I've finally gotten to the point where I can start implementing habits and changes and all that good stuff. Real life does really get in the way of weight loss, doesn't it? As much as I've been staying away from sugar and trying to eat well and walking a hell of a lot more, the weight keeps creeping up. My instincts aren't at the "blindly and mindlessly lose weight" stage yet. And more's the pity.

Great things about my new job, from a weight loss perspective, are as follows:

--It is less than two blocks away from a grocery store full of fresh fruit, veggies, and even a sushi bar (with chefs who make fresh sushi throughout the day). Yesterday for lunch I bought a bag of fruit and a California roll; I ran out of high-fiber cereal this morning so I had fruit for breakfast. It's summer, too, so I've been eating apricots every day. I adore apricots.

--I walk a lot. If I find my pedometer amidst all my moving boxes, I will see if it's 10,000 steps a day. At my last job, whenever I was done with work, somebody came by and got it; here, I have to bring it to people, thereby getting more exercise. Plus, I walk a lot in the process of commuting to and from work. As much as I grumble about it, it's good, right?

--Also at my last job, I could never count on lunch breaks; here, there are three of us on the team, and I haven't had to work through lunch even on the busiest days. This will be great when it comes time to use my lunch break to go to the gym; as of right now, it means I can go get my fresh fruit every day if I want to.

--I have a discount gym membership that I have to remember to sign up for.

--We have a Trader Joe’s vending machine, containing things like celery sticks and peanut butter for 85 cents, or big salads for four bucks.

Furthermore, the new place we're going to be living is right at the end of the Way of the Mighty Chicken, my old bike path! I can go biking again! I'm very excited about that.

One thing I do need to do right away is to re-join Weight Watchers. So I'm going to be doing that very soon. There's no meeting near work, sadly, but I know a meeting I can go to on the weekend, that isn't far from where I am going to be living. So next weekend, when I'm back in town, I'm going to go for the dreaded weigh-in. That's the biggest change I need to make, tracking my points again; I hope in this manner to prevent Flappy from succeeding in what seems to be a plan to take over the world.
