First Post

I still have to go back and look up the name of the brilliant person who gave me the name for this new blog. Thank you, brilliant person! I hesitated over the title because it might imply that I am not already hot, and will only be hot if I am thinner. But you all know better than that, right?

I thought I'd do one quick post here to commemorate my first day back at Weight Watchers. In the spirit of starting over again, I will even tell you the weight: 246.6 pounds. I don't know my highest weight ever, but last time I did weight watchers, I started at 267 pounds, I believe. My lowest weight was 213 pounds. My current 10% goal is 25 pounds, a nice round number. That would put me at 221.6 pounds. And so there you have it.

I decided to go back to Weight Watchers for several reasons. First, obviously, I have gained back some of the weight I lost (33 pounds, to be painfully exact) and I am less comfortable at this weight than I was at a lower weight. Second, I ended up in the hospital last week with gastritis, and one of the recommendations for that is to lose weight, and I want nothing to do with that kind of pain and those needles again, ever. Third, my cholesterol is borderline, and I would like to lower that number as well. Noble goals, aren't they?

My mother found out I was in the hospital, unfortunately, because I knew exactly what was coming when she called. I explained that I had a problem similar to acid reflux and she said "Oh, I had something like that too!" Pause. "I joined Curves, you know! I lost two pounds!" Translation: "It is because you're fat. Lose some weight." Yeah, thanks for the sympathy there. But I can't stay away from Weight Watchers because of that, so on we go.

They have changed the points system a little bit, and for the better, I think. Rather than just being based on your weight, they also take into account gender, age, and what you spend your day doing. (So as a Starbucks barista, since I was on my feet all day, I would have gotten two exctra points per day.) I ended up with a 30-point daily target. (It will go down by one every time the tens column in my weight goes down.)

Today I am counting points, but this evening I am having a dinner party and will probably just consider it as my Flex points for the week. I am going to see if I can hit 30 points every day this week. It seems like a pretty doable target, and since all this week I've been extra restricted on my eating (no alcohol, no coffee, no greasy foods, no spicy foods, no tomatoes) I think I should be able to make it.

I'll keep you posted! It's good to be back.

Yay, welcome back!

Congrats on restarting WW! I've been wanting to go back since I regained about 20 lbs from my lowest weigh, but I can't afford it now (not even with the new monthly passes). It's interesting that they changed the points-distribution system, though. Maybe I should pay for one weekly meeting fee just to get the new scoop.

Anyway, glad to have you back, and good luck with WW!

Welcome back! WW makes me into a crazy woman, but I know it works for some people -- good luck.

I was a long-time lurker over at ointy, and now I'm pleased as, well, *pie* to see you posting again. I'm picky about my bloggers, but I find your frankness and freshness about body-related things to be really great.

Looking forward to it...

Good job starting over. It's hard...I know from rather painful experience.

I'm on the second time around myself. Keep it up...

I have a cholesterol remedy that my parents are hooked on...

1 granny smith apple (has to be this kind)
1 tsp uncooked oatmeal
1/2 cup skim milk

Blend in the blender and drink. Reportedly it's very filling and is doing wonders for my dad's cholesterol.

I'm thinking about getting back on the WW wagon myself--it really worked the time I did it.
